How to Delete Snapchat ?

I consider dropping my Snapchat account but I do not know how to execute it properly. I have encountered a few variants on the web, some of them claim that you can use the app, some one states that one has to visit the site. How do we get rid of Snapchat, and, more importantly, is there a distinction between deactivating and destroying it, or, in other words, what does it take to permanently delete it? In addition, is your data retained by Snapchat when deleted? Hate a good piece of advice!

You can simply uninstall the Snapchat app from your phone, or if you want to completely stop using it, you can delete your Snapchat account by going to their manage account section.

You can delete your Snapchat account on the app or through accounts.snapchat.com. Log in with your username and password. Proceed to Account Settings, find the option Delete Account, and confirm it. You will be asked once again to sign in with your credentials. Your account will then be deactivated for 30 days, after which you may still reactivate it if you change your mind. After this time has passed, your account will be deleted along with everything in it.

Snapchat doesn’t let you permanently delete an account directly from the app. You must log in via a web browser, deactivate the account first, and then wait for the deletion period to complete. Deactivation and deletion are part of the same process.

When I searched How to Delete Snapchat, I was confused too because the app doesn’t show any delete option. Once I used the official accounts portal on their website, it was actually straightforward. After 30 days of inactivity, the account was gone.

Important distinction:
  • Deactivation = your account is hidden and inaccessible

  • Deletion = happens automatically after 30 days if you don’t log back in
If you sign in during that window, Snapchat reactivates your account.

If you’re wondering How to Delete Snapchat permanently, the key step is not logging back in for 30 days after deactivation. That’s what actually triggers permanent removal.

Regarding data retention: Snapchat states that most personal data is deleted after account removal, but some information may be kept temporarily for legal, security, or billing purposes. That’s standard across major platforms, not unique to Snapchat.
