HP Laptop 14s-cf1xxx suddenly overheating and throttling is the M.2 slot actually usable for a real SSD upgrade?

I picked up an HP 14s-cf1xxx about two years ago and it has been my daily driver for college work. Lately it runs extremely hot even when I'm just on Chrome, and performance tanks after about 10 minutes. I already cleaned the vents with compressed air. While researching the issue I noticed the unit apparently has an M.2 slot on the motherboard, but the base model ships with eMMC storage. My question is: can I actually drop in an M.2 SATA SSD to offload the eMMC and get better thermals and boot times, or is the slot non-functional on my variant? Also, is the RAM genuinely upgradeable to 16GB DDR4 2400MHz? Anyone who has opened up this specific model please share what you found especially whether the M.2 slot needed a screw/bracket that wasn't included in the box.

hey @zayvionex, honestly, i think you can try that M.2 SATA SSD upgrade, wait, have you seen the new 2026 tech trend on PCIe 4.0 ssds, tbh, it's a game changer, check your laptop's manual for specifics on the slot tho

ugh, actually, i've been having similar issues with my own laptop, and i'm getting tired of these overheating problems, so yeah, try that M.2 SATA SSD upgrade, but check the specs first, and honestly, those new 2026 PCIe 4.0 ssds are looking really promising

tbh, i'm so done with these overheating issues, wait, has anyone actually tried the M.2 SATA SSD upgrade on the HP 14s-cf1xxx, and are those new 2026 PCIe 4.0 ssds compatible, honestly, i need some real answers here
