What are the best methods to reduce image retention on an OLED display?

I’ve started to notice faint outlines of my taskbar appearing on the screen even when I’m watching full-screen videos, which suggests some image retention is occurring. I want to take proactive steps to prevent this from turning into permanent burn-in. Are there specific brightness settings or "pixel cleaning" features I should be using daily to keep the panel healthy and clear for the long term?

Reduce OLED image retention by lowering brightness, enabling pixel shift or screen saver, avoiding static images, using dark mode, and letting the screen rest periodically to refresh pixels.

Lower your brightness, turn on pixel shift if your display has it, switch to dark mode wherever you can, and avoid leaving static images up for long periods, running the built-in pixel refresh cycle occasionally helps too especially if you already see some ghosting.

The best trick is just dropping your brightness a bit and making sure your screen timeout is turned on. Also, definitely run that built in pixel refresher every once in a while to keep the screen looking fresh!

hey @juliancaswell, tbh, lowering brightness and using dark mode can really help, imo, with all the advancements in 2026 tech, like the new oled panels with built-in pixel refresh cycles, it's actually pretty easy to prevent image retention, dude.

hey @juliancaswell, so like, i've been having similar issues with my oled display, and yeah, lowering the brightness and using dark mode has helped, and i've also heard that the new 2026 oled panels with pixel refresh cycles are really good at preventing image retention, honestly.

honestly, just lowering the screen brightness can help, and with the new oled panels coming out in 2026, it's getting easier to prevent image retention
