Why am I seeing horizontal black lines on screen laptop displays?

I opened my lid today only to find several thin black lines on screen laptop panels that flicker whenever I move the hinge. I can't tell if the display cable is loose or if the actual LCD has been damaged by pressure. Does anyone have a guide on how to diagnose if this is a screen-related issue or something that can be fixed by simply reseating an internal connector?

That flickering when you move the hinge is usually a loose display cable rather than actual screen damage, try connecting it to an external monitor and if that looks fine it's almost definitely the cable and not the LCD itself.

Horizontal black lines on laptop displays are commonly caused by loose display cables, outdated graphics drivers, screen damage, overheating, refresh-rate issues, or failing GPUs. Restarting, updating drivers, or testing an external monitor can help diagnose the problem.

Horizontal black lines on a laptop screen can appear due to a loose display cable, outdated graphics drivers, or a damaged screen panel. In some cases, it may also be caused by a graphics card issue or hardware malfunction.

If you're seeing horizontal black bars on your laptop screen, it's likely due to a loose display cable, out-of-date graphics drivers, damaged screens, or GPU problems. Sometimes overheating or refresh rate problems can also cause them. Restart the laptop; update display drivers and check external monitor output. If the lines are present, screen or internal hardware may need to be repaired.

Horizontal black lines on a laptop screen usually happen because of a loose or damaged display cable, outdated/corrupted graphics drivers, screen damage, or sometimes GPU issues. I’ve seen it happen after a laptop gets bumped or the lid is opened/closed a lot, which can loosen the internal display connection. If the lines appear only sometimes, try updating graphics drivers or connecting to an external monitor to check whether it’s the screen or the graphics hardware causing it.
