How To Stop WhatsApp From Saving Photos?

I’m trying to figure out how to stop WhatsApp from saving photos automatically to my gallery. It fills up storage and becomes messy. Where is the setting to disable this, and does it work for both Android and iPhone? Anyone who has turned it off, please guide.

If‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ you want to stop WhatsApp from saving photos to your gallery, you need to disable media visibility on Android and save to camera roll on iPhone. Thus, the steps will be as follows: On Android, open WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > turn off "Media visibility"; On iPhone go to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > disable "Save to Camera ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Roll".

To prevent photos being saved by WhatsApp, in the settings, on an iPhone (Settings Chats), switch off save to camera roll, and on Android (Settings Media Visibility), switch off media visibility. This will help you to avoid having images in your gallery. These settings can also be changed individually to individual chats by changing their media visibility options.

WhatsApp: “You don’t want storage chaos? Cool, we got you.”
Me: follows all the steps to disable auto‑save & media visibility
WhatsApp (internally): “Hold my beer” proceeds to dump 500 memes into a hidden folder anyway 😆

Bottom line: turning off settings helps stop the mess in Gallery, but your phone’s storage may still get used up unless you clean the WhatsApp media folder manually from time to time.

To stop WhatsApp from saving photos, go to WhatsApp > Settings > Chats and turn off Media Visibility on Android or Save to Camera Roll on iPhone. This prevents downloaded images from appearing in your phone’s gallery.

Open WhatsApp → go to Settings › Chats → turn off “Media visibility” (on Android) or disable “Save to Camera Roll” (on iOS). This prevents photos and videos from automatically saving to your device gallery — keeping your storage clean and privacy intact.
