Is AI the Future of Smartphones?

Lately, every new phone seems to include AI-powered features — from smart cameras to adaptive interfaces. Are these changes truly useful or just marketing hype?

Honestly, AI in smartphones is already useful, but most people don’t notice it. Things like battery optimization, background task management, and photo enhancement have been AI-driven for years. The newer stuff like on-device generative AI is still kinda gimmicky, but it will eventually become core to how phones work.

Half the “AI features” in new phones feel like someone glued ChatGPT to the notification panel and called it innovation.

Bro I just want my battery to last more than 12 hours, not have my phone write poetry when I’m typing a text.

AI is not hype. On-device AI means faster processing, better photos, real-time transcription, and way more personalization. This is the natural next step.

Bro, chill. Most companies are slapping the word “AI” on basic features. “AI Camera”? That’s been around forever. Half of these “AI phones” are just updated software with a new name.

I think it depends. Certain AI items are worth having — such as call screening, image removing objects, and live translators. However other items such as “AI wallpapers” or “AI gestures are something that appeared to have been inserted due to the boardroom feeling that they need to make it sound futuristic.

AI is certainly the future, just like all phone launches events.

Next year they’ll be like:
Introducing: AI that informs you that you are poor after viewing your Amazon cart.

However, the thing is that, provided AI makes my phone smoother and allows me to take uglier pictures, I do not mind.
