I’ve recently started handling sensitive documents for work, and I’m trying to understand how to send encrypted email outlook provides for privacy. I don’t want to risk sharing confidential files without protection. Can someone explain how to send encrypted email outlook supports, and whether it works the same on desktop and web versions?

Hey, I’ve used Microsoft Outlook for this, on desktop just click New Email > Options > Encrypt, and on the web hit the Encrypt button before sending; it’s pretty much the same flow on both, super simple once you try ii

To send an encrypted email in Microsoft Outlook, compose a new message, then go to Options and select Encrypt (or Permissions). Choose the desired encryption level, such as Encrypt-Only or Do Not Forward. Add recipients and content, then click Send. The message will be protected, and recipients will need authorization to read it.

To send encrypted emails in Outlook, 1. Go to Settings > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings. 2. Enable the 'Encrypt contents and confirm secure sign-out' option. 3. Compose a new email, click the 'Options' tab, and select 'Encrypt' from the 'Security Settings' group. 4. Enter the recipient's email address and click 'OK'. This will encrypt the email.

In Outlook, open a new email, click Options, then choose Encrypt (or Encrypt-Only/Do Not Forward depending on your version), write your message, and click Send; if encryption isn’t visible, make sure your Microsoft 365 account has encryption enabled in settings, as some features depend on your organization or subscription plan.

I've been using Outlook's built-in encryption feature and I can attest that it's quite user-friendly. To send an encrypted email in Outlook, first make sure you're using a compatible version, then go to the 'Options' tab when composing a new email, select 'encrypt' and choose a password or use a certificate. Once you've set up encryption, Outlook will automatically encrypt your emails and attachments when you check the 'encrypt' box. It's a simple yet effective way to secure your communications.
