After installing the recent patch, I noticed something about windows 11 update kb5064081 login screen passkeys. I’m not fully sure what this feature changes or improves. Does windows 11 update kb5064081 login screen passkeys mean passwordless login is now supported at startup? Would appreciate clarification before enabling anything.

Windows 11 update KB5064081 introduced passkey functionality, which enables users to use biometrics or PIN to sign in to the operating system using Windows Hello rather than passwords. A bug can however conceal the password option on the login screen when several approaches are activated. The password remains, the button is not erased, it is only hidden.

The KB5064081 login screen passkeys feature is meant to let you sign in more securely using passkeys (biometric/PIN-based credentials) instead of passwords, but that update also caused a UI bug where the password login icon can appear missing on the lock screen.

Details:
  • Passkeys are secure cryptographic credentials stored on your device that let you log in using face, fingerprint, or PIN instead of passwords.
  • They’re phishing-resistant and safer because the secret key never leaves your device.
  • The KB5064081 update introduced a visual bug where the password icon disappears even though password login still works if you click the hidden area.
