What’s the proper way to wipe a Lenovo laptop completely before selling it?

I’m planning to sell my Lenovo laptop and want to wipe everything properly so none of my personal files can be recovered. I’ve seen options in Windows like “Reset this PC,” but I’m unsure if that’s enough or if I need to format the drive fully. Do I need to remove my Microsoft account first? Should I also check BIOS settings or use a separate USB tool? I just want to make sure the laptop is clean and safe for the next owner without accidentally deleting system files that are required.

To wipe a Lenovo laptop before selling:

  1. Back up your data (files, photos, passwords).
  2. Sign out of accounts (Microsoft, Google, etc.).
  3. Go to Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC.
  4. Choose Remove everythingFully clean the drive (best for selling).
  5. Follow prompts to reset and reinstall Windows.

This securely erases your data and returns the laptop to factory-like condition.

Honestly, just use “Reset this PC” → “Remove everything” → “Fully clean the drive” on your Lenovo laptop, that securely wipes your data, and yes, sign out/remove your Microsoft account first for peace of mind. I’ve done this before selling mine and it worked perfectly without touching BIOS or extra USB tools.

Before selling a Lenovo laptop, it is necessary to wipe the laptop, which means saving the files, signing out of the account, and deauthorizing the device. Then, state to Settings Recovery reset this PC and remove everything and select full drive cleaning. To ensure the highest level of security, it is recommended to enable data wiping of BIOS or reformat windows using installations.
